Materials List for 8 From 1: Intensive Flower Caning Workshop

The following items are included in the $10 materials fee and will be provided to you:

  • pre-made centers for flowers
  • Detailed hand outs, color photo guides
  • deli wrap, index cards, baby wipes, etc that will be used during class.
  • “Mud” clay

Necessary tools and supplies to bring with you to the class:

NOTE:  I strongly prefer using Kato Polyclay, and hope that you will too!  Many students become frustrated using softer clays to cane with in my classes, so while I will not tell you that you CANNOT use Fimo Soft or Premo clay, I do recommend Kato for the best results.  Fimo Classic may also be used successfully but it may take you a lot of extra time to get it into a workable condition.

  • Either a single one pound skinner blend, or 4 identical (4 oz) skinner blends. Blends need to have a definite light side and dark side…Some suggested blend colors: magenta, violet, purple or red to white, alizarin crimson to ecru, purple to pink or blue to lavender or white).  LEAVE THE BLENDS IN FLAT SHEETS, do not roll them up or make plugs.
  • Clay: 4 ounces each gold, white; 2 ounces scrap clay
  • A selection of other colors to make centers for the canes and shift their colors (at least 4 colors: choose from black, yellow, green, orange, gold, brown…just bits and pieces of these colors)
  • (2) 2 oz packs of each: Sculpey III translucent and Fimo Translucent (Soft or Classic is fine!)
  • Thomas Scientific tissue blade (brand new) ( I will have these available at the class for $3 each)
  • Pasta Machine (motors ARE permitted, and encouraged!)
  • large ceramic tile or other preferred work surface
  • any additional blade
  • X-acto or scalpel
  • notebook/paper and pen for additional notes
