Day of the Dead workshop Oct. 23-25 in Hollis, NH

Here are the pictures and description of the Day of the Dead workshop that I will be teaching along with Tommie Howell in Hollis, NH at Darleen Bellan’s studio.  The class will start with a meet-and-greet and demos on Friday, October 23 starting at 5 pm and will run from 10-5 or so Saturday and Sunday.  Tommie and I are so very excited to be teaching this class for the first time, especially so close to the Day of the Dead holiday and we couldn’t ask for a better hostess than Darleen!

All pictures are clickable for full sized versions…the journals show an alternate application for the information covered in the class.  Lynne Ann will be bringing her bookbinding machine and materials for those who wish to make a journal as well.

Here’s the official description:

This unique workshop experience combines the talents of polymer clay artist Lynne Ann Schwarzenberg and sculptor Tommie Howell.  Through team teaching, they will cover a wide range of techniques that will come together in the creation of a Day of the Dead folk art inspired Corpse Bride art doll. Learn to make dimensional flowers (particularly marigolds and roses), create realistic looking faux bone, and try your hand at sculpting techniques that will not only help you to create  skeletal dolls, but will give you a great foundation for figure sculpting in general, through Tommie’s ingenious method of breaking down the human head into a series of simple shapes that anyone can  form.  The class will also include a short introduction to Day of the Dead symbolism and info on how to create faithful reproductions of this traditional folk art.

Cost: $195 per person, limited to 12 students to guarantee lots of individualized instruction.

Please contact me or Darleen to sign up.
